Football, MMA and Everything Else: Watching Live Sports Without Cable
2 min read
The reason sports subscriptions creep up is that the calendar never overlaps nicely. The football is on one network, the boxing on another, and the cricket series somewhere else entirely, so a season of watching turns into three separate bills.
A live TV app that carries the sports channels collapses that into one sign in. The weekend looks like this:
Match days
Football is the one everyone fights over, so expect the big leagues and the cup ties to be split across a handful of channels rather than sitting on one. The practical answer is the channel list: open the sports category, work down until you find the feed holding the match, and stay there. If a channel is buffering during a game, the second sports feed usually has the same fixture with a different commentator.
Fight nights
MMA cards run long β prelims in the afternoon, the main card late β and the prelims are the part that never makes it onto a free-to-air channel. They are on the same pay-per-view network as the main event, so one channel covers the whole night. Set the phone down on a charger for the main card; two hours of video will flatten a battery that is not plugged in.
Everything in between
Motorsport, tennis, athletics and the regional channels that carry kabaddi and cricket highlights sit in the same list. This is the part of a sports lineup that genuinely shifts over time, so the honest instruction is: search the name of the channel you want and check the category, rather than trusting a screenshot from somebody's blog.
On the TV, not in your hand
Every one of these works better on a television. The app runs on Android TV and Fire TV sticks, the layout is the same, and the remote is a much better thing to be holding at the end of a fifth round than a phone.
